Question:
So frightening. What happened to my daughter?

Today, my daughter was sleeping in the crib. I went in to check on her, and I saw she was sleeping tummy down with her head to the side. Upon closer inspection, her eyes were open. I got a little freaked out, so I called her name out. She didn't respond. I then said her name a LOT loud and no response. By this time, I started to panic. I moved her body around by holding on to her arm, and she was limp. I thought she was dead! I was so scared! I had already dialed 911 (I was trembling), and turned on the lights. As soon as I turned on the lights, she was looking at me with a huge smile.

What happened with her? Is this normal? Have you seen this? She is acting normal now, playing with her toys and such. (She is six months old). No fever or anything. If you have any information or experiences, please let me know!

Sleep paralysis maybe, I don't really know but sometimes my daughter will be asleep and her eyes will be open.

I would seriously consider calling your daughter's pediatrician and letting him/her know what happened. I suppose its possible that she was just incredibly relaxed and "playing possum", but I've never heard of any 6 month old doing that. Never once. Perhaps it was a seizure or some kind of epileptic situation. I probably would have insisted that the paramedics go ahead and come to my house and check her vital signs. If her respirations, pulse or O2 saturation was low, I'd of taken her to the hospital for observation. Definitely call the doctor though and get her checked out. Better safe than sorry.

I would have called 911 too. More than likely, it's nothing. Babies do sleep very soundly and can sleep with their eyes open.

But to be on the safe side, I would speak to your baby's doctor.

That would've scared me to death! I would take her to the doctor ASAP. Do you think it could have been a near-miss SIDS incident? They do have sleep apnea monitors, and I think most of them are used by newer babies (some preemies) but it is worth looking into. We have a friend who went in to check on his baby and she wasn't breathing and her skin was looking a little blue. He did rescue breaths and she was okay, but they did take her to the hospital and they had a monitor for use at home for a while. Even if all it does is help YOU sleep at night, I'd take her in and get a doctor's opinion.

scarey, happened to me when my daughter bobbi was 2 weeks , i was lying there holding her cos she was crying and i was on the phone to a friend asking advice when i looked down and she had her eyes opened but no expression no movement, and was just staring into thin air, i was so scared,

but your case seems very scarey id ring your local doctor or baby doctor and ask for some advice, even if you have a parent line you can call,

My brother in law sleeps with his eyes partially open. My husband and I noticed that our daughter does too at times. Perhaps your daughter sleeps with her eyes open too.

I would let her doctor know though. Just in case its something more serious.

She very well could have been sleeping with her eyes open. I had a friend that did that and it freaked me out too. Some people do that.

i don't want to alarm you and im not trying to say this is what happend but my little sister has seizures and thats one thing that happens is she will just gaze at something and not respond or anything till it's over very scary but it could be something not so serious also. i would suggest make a doctor app or call and talk to them about it and see what they think.

She must have been in a very deep state of sleep. That sounds really scary. Did you not look to see if her chest was moving up and down or not... if it was not, then she may have sleep apnea!

She might have been sleeping with her eyes open.

It is very common.

But just to be on the safe side, go see your family doctor.

She was probably sleeping with her eyes open. More common than you might think.

I am a psychic and spiritualist. When we are babies we are still very close to God on a soul level, and in sleep we astral travel in and out of the body. My guess is your daughter was doing this, its nothing to worry about, she was still outside her body when you cam in.

I would definately have her tested for "Silent Seizures" that sounds like she had one for real.
