Homeschooling moms: What kinds of group activities are your kids involved in?
My son is starting Kindergarten this year. We are doing cyber homeschool. I want him to have a lot of interaction with other kids also. What kinds of activities can I get him into (i.e. martial arts, sports teams, etc.) What would you suggest?

the best thing i have ever done was join the YMCA, they have SPARKS, which is 50 minutes of group activities such as kickball, volleyball. basketball, twice a week, also swim lessons, swim teams, soccer, baseball, volleyball. besides the YMCA my children are involved in tie kwon do, music lessons, church group activities, 4H which is sooo GREAT, dance, gymnastics, tap, the YMCA is so affordable and offers an unlimited amount of options, also they offered group sign language classes we took , a babysitting course for my older children, first aid, CPR, , 4H is great to get involved in, I am a home schooling mom, I also was worried about socialization, so i guess maybe we overdo it, but my kids love all there activities, also find other homeschooling parents in your area, they have meetings, support, and lots and lots of ideas, but definitely join the YMCA, good luck, you have made a great decision,

The first place I always recommend is your local library. Many libraries have fun programs for kids that are free. Your child will interact with public school children as well as other homeschoolers in these programs. Best feature - FREE. The next resource is to do an online search of yahoogroups for homeschool groups in your area. Find classes/park days/playgroups. Get involved in the homeschool community. I'd also look into scouting - not free but reasonably priced. There may even be some homeschool scout troops in your area! Good luck!!
