Question:
What could you possibly buy at a gas station with food stamps?
2010-10-07 12:17:59 UTC
I noticed today that the gas stations in our area all have signs that say "now taking EBT" which is food stamps. The only thing healthy in there is milk which is grossly over priced and people could go right across the street to the albertsons and get a gallon of milk for .99 on sale. Why on earth would a gas station take food stamps?

I like to know were you live that you get milk for 99 cents. Most of the time gas stations are not across the street from a store. I know that they are hire in price. But for someone like me who has a toddler and no car, It is worth going there to get eggs, milk bread ect. Than to have to get on a city bus and ride it with child in tow. Or to pay for a cab. Sometimes we need to think about other peoples needs instead of what you do with your money. it not sodas we buy it is stuff our childern need. To the person below me. we do not get money back on our ebt cards. I live in NC. I am a signal parent (father died) i work and just need alittle help cover the high cost of food. With your aittude I hope you never need help. It not your tax money it is my childs dead father money. Sometimes we should think before passing judgement on others. That is Gods job not yours,

Never realized so many "children" getting their panties in a wad over someone using a food stamp card on a grocery item. SO what, if someone uses the card to buy chips, candy, sodas , etc... GET OVER IT!!!!

DUH< a gas station does carry food items. Leave others alone about their business.

Kwik Trips offer great prices on bread, eggs, butter, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, fruit, orange juice. Why wouldn't someone with an EBT card go there. What a stupid question.

Well it's so they can get their milk and bread at the same place they get their beer and cigarettes. Why would someone want to stop at 2 stores, when the gas station offers 1-stop shopping?

But seriously, a lot of gas stations have food items. Yes, they are more expensive, but some people like the convenience of it....hence the term convenience store.

There is a lot actually and many people who receive food stamps (sorry, can't give you a percentage but I'm sure it's high) don't have a vehicle to drive themselves to the grocery store or the money for a cab. There are gas stations on every corner.

I saw at a local gas station a sign next to the nachos. It said "Cheese for nachos is not coverd by EBT cards." So people go in there and buy the "deli" foods apparently.

LOL at She Is My Sunshine. Ha!

Most gas stations have food, I suppose right? Gas stations will make more money if they accept food stamps - it's all about the almighty dollar.

Obviously you've never been to a Kwik Trip. Granted their donuts suck. But they always advertise bananas. Those Cheese Mountain pizzas arent bad - when only eating a sample, but never get a whole one.

Is it open 24/7; do people get stamps that are good only starting after midnight on a certain date?

hmm milk is cheaper than the grocery store at a lot of small convenience stores or gas stations here where I live.

Gallon of milk for .99?? Wow where do you live?

The cheapest milk here at the grocery store (generic milk) is like $3.50 (in fact I just got milk at a convenience store for like $3.49 which is cheaper than the grocery store).

You can buy any food, gum or candy. I've seen people buy like a 25 cent piece of gum and then get cash back on their EBT card. It makes me sick! EBT should be like WIC - approved foods only. I hate to see people buying frozen pizzas, chips and ice cream with my tax money.

From what I have seen, though, a lot of stores make their money this way. There is a grocery store in town that doesn't scan the foods - like at Wal-Mart. They just manually enter the price. So people can buy *anything* there with their EBT and get cash back. I am sure this keeps stores like that in business.

I'd like to know why its possible to get cash back on an EBT card, anyway!
