My son will be 2 in June and the new Shrek movie is coming out in May. He has all three Shrek movies and he watches them all the time. Im not sure if i should take him to the movie theater to see the movie or just wait to buy it on dvd. My fiance agreed that he is well behaved and if we take him to the theater if he starts being to loud we will take him outside for a few minutes until he calms down. What age do you think is too young to bring a child to the movie theater? Do you think he is too young?

My boys were all about 2 years old when they went the first time. I think it depends on each child and how much of an attention span they have and how well they can sit still for longer periods. My boys always did fine. I think it should be fine if he's seen the others and enjoyed them. Make sure to get snacks and use the potty beforehand (if trained) and bring a couple little toy cars or something for before the movie starts. Don't forget to ask for a booster at the desk where you buy your tickets (they have them at our theater for little kids)

If your child is old enough to (1) understand what's going on in the movie and (2) behave in the theater, then take him. The only concern I have is that Shrek is not really a kid's cartoon. There's a lot of adult content in it that I think a two-year-old shouldn't see. But I guess that's not an issue with you as you've already let him see the other Shrek films.

Two is a bit young for a movie. You have to consider that at that age, they just do not like to sit still in the movie theatre for that long.

You might also look for Mommy Movies in your area. In my city they were called Cinebabies. They would show popular movies in the afternoons in a theatre that is just for moms and tots who would otherwise not handle movies that well. Everyone in the theatre knows that there are small children present, and that they might cry or talk out loud, or otherwise disturb the other movie goers.

Or failing that, just go to an afternoon showing mid week with fewer people.

My daughter wasn't able to handle sitting through a movie until age three.

I would wait until 5 years old. But I have a friend that takes her 18 month old to the movies. So I Guess it depends on the child. Can they sit still for long? Can they go for a long time with out talking? ect.

I find 2 is a little young. I had a cousin who had to leave because her 2 yr old got the bejesus scared out of him from the sheer loudness of the previews...poor little bugger cried for a long time. She didn't bring him back until he started school.

It all depends on the child. If your can sit still for 2 hours and isn't easily frightened, then go for it...

Good luck!

Take your son, he'll enjoy it! I took my daughter to the princess and the frog and she was only 2. It's not such a great movie to choose for such a young child but she enjoyed the cinema experience. She said wow what a big TV when she walked in. She sat there and watched it all and only needed to leave once for a potty break. I say give him a chance he may surprise you.

This sounds like a little like the kids' book, "The Ghost Belonged to Me" by Richard Peck, part of his series of books about Blossom Culp, who can see ghosts. It was made into a Disney movie called, "The Child of Glass." I just looked it up and, indeed, the role of Inez Dumaine, the ghost child, was played by Olivia Barash, who was in that extremely bizarre "Little House" episode. Never seen the movie, but it sounds like maybe that's it.

I think 2 is just about right. I took my daughter when she was 2 and as long as the movie catches their eye you should be fine

Yes I would wait til 4 or so. A 2 yr old won't be able to sit thru that without being disruptive at some point.
