Do you like the new rating system? What do you like or not like about it?

I like how you can say what aspect you like about the question, particularly the amusing button. :)

I think it's good in a way without a dislike button because it means less negativity, but I also think it's bad because some people can give some terrible advice or incorrect information.

I don't like it at all. There's now four ways to be right and no way to be wrong, the Useful and Informative button mean just about the same thing, and the Amusing button just supports trolls and silly comments, I can't imagine finding an answer that effectively helped the asker to be Amusing. I also just want to like someone's answer, I don't want to sit and think about what I like about the answer (just one"I agree" button is enough). And if an answer is totally wrong or just plain rude, I think it's only fair that they can get negative feedback just as much as they can positive feedback. It's technically against community guidelines to call out another user via your answer (which also ruins the freedom of being anonymous and unbiased), so I feel like this is just going to make people get more violations.

Micahs...

I will also copy my answer from a previous post:

My answer is no. And if it continues as such I will no longer be participating on the Y!A boards. I don't mind the additional options when a thumbs up is earned, but I DO expect the same type of opportunity to express why a thumbs down may be warranted.

When an answer is cr@p...it is cr@p and usually other serious-minded members have some ability to warn or help an asker actually avoid poor advice as the route to take, especially when it could end up endangering an animal...a child...a loved one...one's self depending on which group category is involved.

The problem is roving groups of trolls or kids...or other idiots who come on the boards to cause havoc abusing the thumbs down option -- as their way to negate or help hide what is often a sound and valid answer, or to stalk a user they take a disliking to. It is not intended for that. It is intended to allow other members to guide the asker to valid, helpful content that provides appropriate suggestion or guidance to the question presented, while not posing harm or potential danger if acted upon by the asker.

I have Explorer and I don't have it.I think an integration of both the new and old system would be best though - explaining why somebody is wrong is against community guidelines (chatting) so to be able to TD with "Wrong/unsafe information" is the better way to go.Sometimes, you just have to TD and in some cases, explaining why somebody deserves one is pointless because it won't make a person change their views

I'll just copy and paste what I put in answering another question similar to yours :)

I think there should still be an option to say "I disagree" without having to say something/argue with the person. I mean, if they take away the option to say "I disagree" entirely then you run the risk of violations because you were "chatting".

I've not see the new rating system yet. But I do like hearing the options of "useful", "informative", "I agree", or "amusing". I still think there should be an option for "I disagree" so people aren't arguing more and more. You can just disagree and move on rather than have to state it in your answer.

True it would seem that the negativity would lessen without a thumbs down option, but there'd also be a lot more arguing among people because there is not a way discreetly say you disagree. And arguing with others online is considered a violation of Y!A policy.

I don't mind thumbs down. I used to hate it and get all irritated, but it's just part of Y!A. People will disagree with me for various reasons. I choose not to let it bug the snot of out me anymore :)

They're just testing it out. They've randomly selected users to use it (well, that's what the article said).

I like it. I like to see WHAT people liked about an answer, instead of just if they liked it or not. I agree with you about there not being a dislike button, it has an upside and a down side.

yes, but apparently i'm in the minority.

if someone gives terrible advice you can always answer and say so. the only thing missing is the ability to anonymously ding them without explaining what your objection is. no loss there, imo. it is certainly a big culture change, considering how ubiquitous the td's are in this section, but anything that makes people have a little more accountability for the opinions they're expressing seems like a good thing to me.

and i love the more specific options for compliments.

*if something's factually wrong, surely it's more useful to answer and explain that than just hit a thumb down button. if it's merely a matter of opinion and someone disagrees but doesn't choose to explain why, i'm not sure what purpose other than venting it serves for them to hit a thumb down key. they can just disagree in their own head and move on.

I haven't seen it.

My guess is that the "report" button will just get more use (assuming that still exists).

There should be "Offensive", "Factually Incorrect", "Stupid" and "Troll" TD options.
