Biopsy Results...How long does it normally take?

I Asked in "health" and no one gave a crap...

DH got a biopsy January 10th.

Crackpot doctor said that we should call him for the results on the 17th.

We did...and they told us the results weren't in yet and we should call back the 19th (today) which we did... still nothing.

Now Crackpot doctor says we should call back next monday because they still don't have the results and maybe they'll know by then.

I'm getting very nervous....but I don't know anything about how labs work or about how long it takes for biopsy results.

They aren't even saying that further testing is being done...they just said "no results yet"...

So would you worry that it's bad and they're doing further testing or whatever...or go by the belief that "no news is good news"?

BQ: Have any of you had a biopsy and how quickly did you get the results?
PQ: Have you ever had to deal with a less than responsive doctor/specialist for your child?

It really depends more on the lab than the doctor. If the lab is backed up, then all results are backed up. But generally speaking you should get the results in 7-10 days. Well the doc would get them around then. So figure 10 days max, then figure 2-3 days (depending on the size of the office) to get them with the chart on the doctors desk. Again depending on size of office and doctors load, on top of how on top of things that doctor is, figure another 3 days for them to call. That would make it about a total of 16 days. Crazy I know! If they did know something, and it was "bad" they would call him and have him come in. Even if it is good though, sometimes doctors have you come in to explain the results and to discuss what steps will happen next (if any). I have never had any biopsy, or to deal with a less than responsive doctor (although I worked for one). Best thing to do, keep calling every day. Although you may seem like you are bothering them, if you are they will be sure to get those results sooner rather than later. Demand that he get the results. Tell him that he said to call bay on the 17th, they weren't in (ok things happen) and then said to call back the 19th, and they are still not it. Tell him that you are very displeased at how he has handled the situation and expect the results no later than next week. If you aren't happy with the doctor though, change. You can always give a new doctor the name of the place that you had the tests done at and they can get the results. Good luck, I how I helped and everything goes good.

The problem could be a back log at the lab.Don't freak out yet.The doctor's office only knows when the results come in.They can't say how many other tests were before yours,in line to be done.Call the office and request that they contact the lab to mak sure your specimen was checked in and not lost, which could be another problem.Make them work for your money.Ask for a timely call back.If you don't get results, start reporting them to the parties that regulate them.Hope test result are fine and good luck.

I've had two biopsies done, and I had the same problem. The results took 1-2 weeks, and it was hell getting somebody on the phone to review the results. The staff there would refuse to review them with me, it had to be the Doctor. I even went in for my appointment to have the result reviewed, and was sent home because the Doctor was in surgery!!! I remember being so damn overwhelmed, and scared...and although everything is okay NOW, it wasn't then, and I was less than thrilled with my OBGYN. Needless to say- I've made a switch.

Could be a number of things. The lab could be backed up, etc...

In my experience, if the quicker the results come back, the worse it is. Again, that's just my experience! Usually if it's something major they get back to you within a few days.

Hopefully they will know something on Monday. Good luck, I'm sure everything will be just fine!

At night when I go to the toilet, I usually stay on for 10 minutes, thinking about my dream... but then I usually fall asleep on it! In school about 2 minutes. At home, about 5 - i'm always daydreaming! Whattabout you? :)
