Hi! I think it is nice you are thinking about these things so young. I would be an advocate for no TV set in the house for sure... although I loooovve watching foreign films, and my hubby loves watching baseball. I have a 17 month old, and the only TV she watches is Sesame Street DVDs/tapes. She loves it. She probably watches 30 minutes maximum a day, or every other day. She loves it, but also loves her loads of other activities too. So, I think no TV is a great thing, but a little TV is also great too.

Unfortunately, for us the TV is a link to the outside world. If there's a tornado in the area, we need to know. I think as you grow older, you'll find that the TV is not a necessary evil. Plus if you're a stay-at-home Mom or even a working Mom, you're going to need to find some YOU time too. While the TV isn't the only option, it is an easy one.

That being said, my kids ate 1 and 3. The one-year old watches exactly 0 hours of TV a week, while the 3 year old averages about 2 hours a day, mainly PBS. I need a break too!!

I watched hours of tv every day. If it was nice out and I had someone to play with I'd play outside, otherwise I'd play with my toys in front of the TV. I read and cross stitched a lot, but usually with the tv on at least for noise. I watched mostly nickelodeon, but a little bit of disney and cartoon network. I go to University of Michigan now and am starting law soon. Never done any drugs, don't drink, am in a healthy relationship, have strong family values, etc etc. I seem to be okay. I won't let my children watch tv nonstop, but as long as it isn't negatively affecting their behavior I'm not going to tell them they can't watch it if they've done everything else they're supposed to have done.

I like them in this order:

Adrianna Isabella Stephanie Chiara (I REALLY hate this last one, it makes me think of giardia XD)

Boys, Matteo, Joel, Matthew, Aiden. They're all fine, really. I like Matteo, even though it's a little different for around here.

I think that some telivision can actually be good for babies and kids, depending on what they are watching, and how much time they watch it vs how much time that you play with them.

It can be really stimulating for babies, and they hear language so it might help with language skills.

I know that for toddlers and preschoolers noggin or pbs kids has some very educational programing.

about the name thing: I like Desiree for a girl and Blaze for a boy.

TV is fine in limited quantities, but many families raise their children without tv viewing at all or only very selective viewing. Using the tv as a baby sitter is very very bad. Its not really the tv that is bad, its how its used that can make it good or bad.

The name you choose for your children should be based on what you like, not what everyone else likes.

My kids watch a moderate amount of television, but they prefer to play outside or with friends. I put videos on for my wee one, but she really doesn't pay much attention, so I am not too worried about my kids watching too much TV. The only name I like on your list is Aiden because I am Irish.

My six year old doesn't really watch tv very much maybe 5 hours a week, she would rather color or play outside. She usually doesn't watch many cartoons either, she likes shows like NCIS, Flashpoint and The Ghost Whisperer.

Given that I don't know how to build Legos and chop carrots at the same time (maybe I don't have enough arms here), I think TV is great so that I can cook in relative peace and quiet...

TV does not have to be on all day long. Remote controls can be hidden. And so far, saying "no" is not yet considered abuse (I keep my fingers crossed).

My daughter watches TV but it's not on 24/7, she likes playing outside and with toys more than watching TV anyway. But I have nothing against it.

I like Adrianna and Aiden.

My children watch no more than 2 hrs. of programming on PBS only! We have chosen not to have cable or dish network. Majority of stuff is garbage which makes children grow up faster than they should. Hey you are a child only once and you need to enjoy it by watching programming which brings learning and fun. I totally trust PBS because I can leave the room without worrying about violence and sexual stuff and R rated commercials.

I think that you not having televisions in the house is a great idea. Television is so terrible for kids younger kids tend to get overstimulated by television the bright colors and fast movements of characters. Older kids can become addicted making it difficult for you to get them to do anything. We do have a television in the house, but it stays off. My son he's three now use to pitch a fit when a cartoon would end ( I limited television to only 30 mins) and I would turn it off. I just reminded him that it was time to turn it off and now when his cartoon ends he turns it off on his own. If you do have a television be sure to be responsible enough to show limited programs and limit the time your child watches the television.

All three of my kids are brilliant, creative, well read and have genius i.q's. My 13 year old son gobbles up books like potato chips, he was reading when he was 2. My 9 year old son reads and absorbs knowledge. My daughter is 5, isnt able to read much yet, but I read to her a lot.

We LOVE television and movies and Im not talking only about educational television. Veggie Tales is RIGHT OUT!!!

All that gab about television being bad for kids is none sense. Its how you parent, how you teach during play and leisure and how you teach your children to use their minds and have compassion that counts.

I'd limit it to about an hour or so a day. I'd rather they play and run around, and not sit like a zombie in front of the tv all the time.

There's really nothing wrong with it if the kids are watching age-appropriate shows, and are spending time doing other things too and are not ALWAYS parked in front of the TV.

I believe that television is extremely detrimental to anyone's mind. have them read book and become musically literate. TV is a one-way, lame excuse of entertainment. You are on the right track thinking about sans TV in your home. We don't have a TV, just tons of books and and orchestra's worth of instruments in addition to three studios in our home.

Tired of being inside, go out and enjoy the true beauty of nature and what this earth still has to offer before we all destroy it! The beach is awesome, hiking, traveling, but video games and TV is not what I suggest. My 2 cents:)
